Encouragement

Quote from Letter 5,62 to John, bishop of Corinth. 15 Augustus 595

(L)et your concern towarrds your subjects be praiseworthy, let discipline be shown with gentleness, and correction with discretion. Let kindness soften anger and zeal sharpen kindness, and let each be seasoned by the other, in such a way that immoderate punishment does not afflict beyond what is right, nor in turn let slackness of discipline break the rectitude of  discipline.
Let the action of your Fraternity be instructive for the people entrusted to you. Let them see in you what they should love, let them observe what they should hurry to imitate, let them learn to live from your example, let them not deviate from the straight and narrow with you as their guide, let them come to God following you, so that you may receive many rewards from the Savior of the human race, to match the wealth of souls produced by you fro Him.
